We invite you to join this unique and amazing 5-days tour to discover the beauty and mysteries of São Miguel – The Azores Green Island.  It is a land of amazing unspoiled nature landscapes with lakes nestled in volcanic craters, hot volcanic natural springs and pools, with a rich aquatic life! 

We will experience the luxurious Furnas Valley with its volcanic water springs, visit the beautiful and unique tea plantation of Europe, walk along the green hills and blue lagoons of Sete Cidades, get out to sea for whale watching, and get the chance to meet some locals and enjoy life the Azorian way!

Additional Information
  • Sightseeing and visits may be subject to change. Whenever a visit is cancelled due to monument or attraction closure, it will be, whenever possible, replaced by other activity.  On adverse weather conditions, some of the sightseeing and visits in this tour may be cancelled. We will do our best to replace them for other suitable activities, if possible.
  • Tours are in English and Portuguese. Tours in French are also possible. Please contact us.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as well as sunscreen, sunglasses, towel, swimsuit, hat and light sweater for cool days and evenings.
  • Level of activity: Moderate
  • For intercontinental flights, we suggest arriving a day or two before your tour begins to allow you time enough to get over the jet lag and be well-rested for this amazing tour.
  • In case you wish to book pre- or post-tour hotel accommodations, please contact us and we will take care of it for you.

Cancellation Policy
  • If cancellation is received up to 60 days before the tour: full refund.
  • If cancellation is received less than 60 days before the tour: 50% refund
  • If cancellation is received less than 30 days before the tour: no refund
  • Tickets for monuments/attractions may not be refundable
  • Transport costs may not be refundable

Itinerary

Day 1 - Historic Ponta Delgada

Upon information of your flight arriving in the morning, a guide will be at the airport to welcome you and help you with the transfer to the hotel.

At 15:00 our guide will meet you at the hotel lobby for a short introduction to the tour.

We begin our tour with a guided walking tour through the historic center of Ponta Delgada. It’s amazing how rich is this small town! 

Day 2 -The Westside Natural Monuments: Sete Cidades and Ferraria

Our second day begins with a visit to Arruda’s famous pineapple plantation followed with a guided visit to Gruta do Carvão, a lava tunnel cave.

The tour continues to Setes Cidades, a site of extraordinary natural beauty.  

In the afternoon, we will visit some of the most remarkable natural monuments and attractions of the west coast.

Day 3 - Whales and Volcanos

This morning begins with whale-watching boat tour off the south coast of the island.  

In the afternoon, the bus will take us to the top of Fogo mountain for some breathtaking views of the volcano lagoon and the whole island. Then we will visit Caldeira Velha natural park with its luxurious forest and hot volcanic river and pools.

Before returning to Ponta Delgada, we will stop in Ribeira Grande baroque town. 

Day 4 - Enchanted Furnas Valley

We dedicate this day to a magical place: Furnas Valley!   

We will visit the lagoon, the village with its “fumaroles” and hot springs, where we will experience its flavors and enjoy natural hot volcanic pools (please bring your swimsuit). 

 

 

Day 5 - The North Coast

We begin our last day with a visit to the natural park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões with its luxurious Macaronesian flora, waterfalls and watermills of the 16th century.

In the afternoon we will do a guided visit to a tea plantation and stop at a sightseeing spot to admire the north coast. 

Our amazing tour in São Miguel Island ends around 16:00 at the hotel lobby from where a transfer will take you to the airport.
